Lions Clubs International is the largest humanitarian service organization in the world, made up of people with a recognized moral and social position, able to improve the fate of the poor, united by friendship and animated by the desire to serve.
At the initiative of Melvin Jones was born in 1917 in USA, first Lions Club. After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June 7, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of that year. A constitution, by-laws, objects and a code of ethics were approved.
Today, the organization is present in 178 countries of the world, consisting of over 45,000 clubs which totaling 1.5 million members. The headquarters of the organization is in USA, Oak Brook, Illinois.
Organization's mission is to create and sustain a spirit of communication between people, through volunteering, through community involvement and international cooperation.
LIONS mean the short word "LIBERTY, INTELLIGENCE, OUR NATIONS SAFETY". This is the name of the association whose motto is "WE SERVE!"
