October - Monthly meeting Lions Club PloiestiDuring the meeting was analyzed the agenda for the lionistic year 2013-2014, were reviewed this month actions and discussed the strategy for the future “interventions”.
Topical, was the action developed under the program WORLD SHARE VISION, of eye screening, at some schools in Prahova villages, Mocesti and Gornet-Cricov, between 10 and 11 October.
The event date was not chosen at random, every year on the second Thursday of October, is celebrated the International Day of Vision, to draw attention at the problems of blindness, visual impairment and rehabilitation of persons with visual disabilities. The tested children, 100 counted, received with enthusiasm the lionistic action. After testing, 20 children were identified with vision problems. The eye screening action has been a real success that is why we intend to repeat this action in November.
Another topical issue is the International Competition “Posters for Peace” 2013-2014, contest during which, children between ages of 11 and 13, can show their creativity through drawing something about the contest theme, “Our world, our future”.
The competition is organized by the Lions Club International, and the big winner will receive 5,000 $, and the 23 drawings ranked as the best will receive 500$ and a certificate of participation. Each club is entitled to send to the District a single drawing, each entry must have a single author , and it will remain property of the club or district , at the end of the contest.
The winning designs at the level of clubs, will be judged by the National Commission, in the second
National Meeting of the District, which will be held in Sibiu on 8-10 November2013.
Members of Ploiesti Lions Club are “collecting” drawing from schools, following that, on 2nd November we choose the winner whose work will be sent to Sibiu.
There were also, discussed the lionistic future actions, which will take place by the end of 2013:
- The International Day of Diabetes, on 14 November, which is the birthday of Frederik Banting, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1923, for discovering the Insulin. In this day we'll try to “enlist” Ploiesti, in the blue chain that marks the Lions Club International concern in this direction, by actions of diabetes screening and management of this illness.
- Christmas Concert-Lions Club Ploiesti, in partnership with the Municipality and Paul Constantinescu Philharmonic, will hold a classical music concert on 22 December 2013.
- The “Football match action”- in which children from the orphanage Plopeni, will be taken to a football game, of our local team, Petrolul Ploiesti.
Lions Club Ploiesti members are available for any social groups, persons, regardless of religion or nationality, and try by every undertaken event to demonstrate the lionistic spirit exists and by all this initiatives to provide an example for others, and let facts speak for them and about them!
